Public art collection of the City of Montreal

Location: mezzanine

 

Created in 1893 in homage to the discoverer

of the St. Lawrence River, this statue had 

been badly damaged by the elements.

The City of Montreal restored it and decided

to give it shelter by displaying it inside the

Place St. Henri Metro Station.

A fine view of the statue...
Had to explain to some Montrealers last week about the Acadians being the first permanent settlers to Canada. They had to look it all up to realize that it was not their Jacques Cartier, who did not bring settlers.
